Ellis Knocks Beloit Hornets Out Of State Legion Tournament

The Beloit Hornets run at the “AA” State American Legion Tournament came to a close on Thursday as they were eliminated by Ellis in the loser’s bracket after falling to Ottawa on Wednesday. Beloit finished the season with a 25-9 record.

Ellis got things started, scoring a run in the bottom of the first on Beloit starter Lance Wolting. Beloit tied the game with a sacrifice by Kyle Zachgo that scored Josh Hesting in the top of the third. The game stayed at 1-1 until the 6th inning when the Hornets went ahead after Casey Smith tripled and was driven in by Colin Loomis later in the inning.

Beloit held a 2-1 lead going into the bottom of the 7th and final inning. Wolting who went the entire game had two outs with runners on 2nd and 3rd, for Ellis’ Aaron Gnad. Gnad lifted Ellis with a walk-off single, plating Jacob Kinderknecht and Dillon Kinderknecht, giving Ellis the 3-2 win.

Wolting went seven innings, giving up 8 hits and three runs, while striking out eight Ellis batters in the loss. Beloit was led offensively by Loomis who went 2-3 with an RBI. Beloit finished their season at 25-9, while Ellis improved to 14-8 and will move in the loser’s bracket on Friday against the loser of the Marysville/Pratt game on Thursday night.
