Finance Reports

It’s been some years since a primary election at the state and federal levels has created so much hoop-la but with so many politicians playing musical chairs in this year’s elections – it seems to be an open forum producing numerous candidates, lots of mud-slinging and fund raising galore to pay for the whole thing.

The deadline was yesterday at midnight for every Kansas candidate for office to file finance reports for state campaign activities between January 1st and July 22nd.

Just to give you an idea of the money that’s fueling the campaigns, here’s how it breaks own in the Governor’s race.

Republican Sam Brownback raised $519,271 and his Republican opponent Joan Heffington of Derby $2,589. Democrat Tom Holland of Baldwin City raised $282,741.

The Primary Election date is a week from today – Tuesday, August 3rd. And then it all starts over again with the general election in November still on the horizon.
